School Illness
Students
coming to the health office are assessed
and treated.
Parents will be notified if their student
has a
fever over 100, vomiting, unidentified
rash or serious
injury, and will be expected to pick the
student
up. If a serious injury requires immediate
treatment,
emergency services will be called.
Students sent home with illness should remain at home until 24 hours
symptom free unless released to return by the child’s healthcare
provider. Please be certain
to complete your child's emergency
notification
card and update if numbers change. Parents
will
be notified of student visits that require
follow-up
or excessive visits to the health office
for minor
complaints. Parents will not be notified
of every
health office visit.
Medications
All
medications required during school hours must have
a doctor's order from your health care provider, parent permission form and the
medication in the original container delivered to
school by an adult. No medication should be carried
by the student in school or on the bus unless an
order to do so has been given to the nurse. Forms
are available to print from this web page under
the Forms and Information tab.
Trips and Medications
Parents
of students that are not independent in administration of their
medication (oral, inhalation and all Epi-pens) will be asked to attend
field trips. If the parent is unable to attend another family member who
is knowledgeable with the medication administration may attend. The
nurse or other trained school staff will attend if necessary.
Physicals and Screenings
Forms are available to print from this web
page under the Forms and Information tab.
For the 2019-20 School Year: New York State Education Department regulations mandate that all students have a physical examination entering kindergarten, grades 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11. Any physical examination done after September 3, 2018 is acceptable for the 2019-20 school year.
Screenings
are done periodically for vision and hearing. Referrals
for failed screenings will be sent home with the
student with parent notification by telephone. Physician
follow up documentation is required for all referrals
in a timely manner.
Privacy
Medical
information about the students is confidential and
shared only with staff that needs to be aware for
the student's health and safety.
