The goal of this informative series is to educate students, parents, staff, and community members on issues and topics surfacing in our community.

Participants will have the option of attending up to three 45-minute sessions of their choice including:

Internet Safety (Bullying, Sexting, Social Media)

School Safety and Active Shooter Preparedness

Distracted Driving (Texting and Driving, Drinking and Driving, Safety Concerns)

New Trends in Latest Drugs (Vaping, E-Cigarette, Juul, Edibles, Tide Pods, Shrooms)

Pre-registration is available here.

Registration information is collected for preparation purpose only (seating arrangements, presenters, etc.). Limited seating is available, so pre-registration is strongly advised.

Childcare will be provided on premises and parents will have the option to drop their children off before attending scheduled sessions.

Childcare activities include:

STEAM Activity:  Students work collaboratively to build a shoe made from tape and newspapers.  The only direction given will be that the shoe must be able to be put on and then taken off without falling apart!

Lego Challenge Cards:  Students build objects from legos that meet the challenges presented on the cards.

Math Activity:  All students get a card with either an equation/problem and other students have a card with solutions. Students must work together to make matching pairs of answer=problem.

Read Aloud with activity: Choose a read aloud that is relevant and relatable to all students… discuss, share connections and have students complete an activity.

Comic Strip and Creative Stories: Share comics with students and discuss what they have in common.
Have students create a comic of their own “story” using illustrations, sayings.

Computer Games: Student will access websites to solve brain teasers, play math games, puzzles, etc.

Through the Parent and Community University series, Longwood hopes to engage, educate, and empower families with the knowledge to support and guide their children down a successful path of academic, social, and emotional success. We believe that family involvement is a critical factor in influencing student achievement.
