High School Students Donate Handmade Pillows to Patients with Cancer

To provide a bit of comfort and care for those undergoing cancer treatments, fifteen Longwood High School students in Ms. Raia’s class donated more than 40 handmade pillows for patients under care at Stony Brook Cancer Center.

Lindamarie Monckton, Cancer Patient Advocate, and Community Outreach Representative thanked the students for giving back to the community.

“We appreciate your generosity, dedication, and thoughtfulness,” said Ms. Monckton.  “Our patients adore homemade items, and they are a welcomed amenity for those who are undergoing treatments."

As part of the pillow project, students completed a paper reflecting on their service experience.

“There was a need for this service,” said Michelle C. “I was able to make others feel good, work together to produce a gift, learn to sew and give back all at the same time.”
