Calvin Erland

Mr. Calvin Douglas Erland was born July 11, 1925 in Port
Jefferson, New York; a son of Elsie Lenore Smith and Charles R.
Erland. Before entering the service, he was
employed as an equipment operator for the Town of Southampton.

While living in Middle Island, New York, Calvin was inducted
into the U.S. Navy and sent to Boot Camp in Sampson, New York.
Later, he was transferred to Norfolk, Virginia and eventually to
Pensacola, Florida.
Calvin Erland served honorably during the war with a PBY
squadron where he received training to become an aircraft
mechanic. PBYs were given the job of searching for enemy
submarines off of the U.S. Coast (from Florida down to South
America) during WWII. During his service he was promoted to
Seaman 1st class.
Calvin was separated from the service on June 6, 1946 at Lido
Beach, Long Island, New York.
