William Lyons was born April 14th, 1924 and was the son of Robert and Jennie (Byrnes) Lyons. He was assigned to Company K of the 320th Infantry, 35th Division. Entering France in the D – Day invasion as a Private with General Patton’s 3rd Army he quickly rose to the rank of Sergeant.  He was killed in action on September 26th, 1944 when German Panzers tried to break American lines. The German’s had broken the American road block and captured 4 anti – tank guns. Soldiers of the 320th Infantry were rushed to stop the Germans from advancing, which they accomplished by recapturing 3 of the lost anti - tank guns.  Lyons was buried at the Military Cemetery at Andilly France. His body would be brought back to America in 1947 and interred at Pinelawn Cemetery
