High School Announces 2019 Valedictorian and SalutatorianLongwood High School is proud to announce Atilla Osan and Heather Waszmer as the Class of 2019 valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively. 

Finishing at the top of his class, Atilla will pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cornell University.  Atilla is an AP Scholar with Distinction, a vital member of the Robotics Club, Princeton Model Congress, Foreign Language Honor Society, National Honor Society, Quiz Bowl, and is involved with the Advanced Research Seminar class.  This summer, Atilla will attend the High School Research Program at Brookhaven National Laboratory where he will track data quality for nuclear physics experiments.  As a talented musician, Atilla is a violinist for the Pit Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Concert Orchestra, and serves as secretary for the Tri-M Honor Society.  

Out of 15,000 applications, Heather is one of only 100 young women accepted into the exclusive Stony Brook University Women in Science and Engineering Honors Program where she will major in Technological Systems Management.  She is an AP Scholar with Distinction, member of the National Honor Society, National Foreign Language Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Princeton Model Congress, and Long Island Envirothon.  Heather also represented Longwood Robotics as Head Student Ambassador at the FIRST World Championships in Detroit, Michigan this past April.  Through her artistic talents, she designed the poster for the high school’s production of Spamalot and participated in numerous art shows across Long Island. She is also a dedicated volunteer for the Salvation Army through the school’s Rotary Club. 

“Atilla and Heather have earned top honors in their class through their outstanding commitment to academic excellence,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael R. Lonergan.  “They serve as excellent role models and leaders for their peers.  We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and wish them well in their future endeavors.”
