Longwood High School Best Buddies Named  “Outstanding Chapter of the Year”The Longwood High School Best Buddies Chapter was designated “Outstanding Chapter” for the 2018-2019 academic year at the Best Buddies International’s Annual Leadership Conference, recently held at Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

“Thank you for your commitment to sharing our mission of friendship and leadership and for making our world a better place for our friends with and without disabilities,” stated Anthony K. Shriver, Founder of Best Buddies International.

The Longwood Chapter was recognized based on the incredible impact that has been made to develop opportunities for inclusion and acceptance in the school and community.  As part of the nomination process, Longwood’s Chapter submitted photos and information about their various activities, fundraisers, events, including the Best Buddies Prom, which hosts more than 500 attendees. 

Longwood Best Buddies Vice President Olivia Chichester accepted the award on behalf of the school’s 80 members.

“The Best Buddies Leadership Conference was powerful and uplifting; every meeting discussed the importance of being inclusive of all individuals,” said Olivia.  “Winning the Outstanding Chapter for 2018-19 made the trip even better!”

Over the past 30 years, the Best Buddies Leadership Conference (BBLC) has inspired thousands of leaders to be Best Buddies advocates and to bring about social change in their communities. BBLC is a once in a lifetime experience that unites Best Buddies leaders, volunteers, and community advocates from around the globe.
