Middle School Student Named First-Place Winner in Suffolk County Poster ContestSixth-grade student Rohan Akmal has been named the first-place winner of the Suffolk County “Dangers of Liquid Nicotine” poster contest.  His poster will be the cover of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services brochure.

At the Tuesday, December 18 General Meeting of the Suffolk County Legislature, Legislator Sarah Anker presented Rohan with a proclamation.

“I congratulate Rohan on a job well done and thank him for teaching his peers how dangerous nicotine can be,” said Legislator Anker. “The use of e-cigarettes has become rampant among teens and preteens, causing them to become addicted to nicotine at an early age.”

Sponsored by Legislator Anker, the educational campaign invited elementary school students to create a Public Service Announcement (PSA) poster about the dangers of liquid nicotine to children and adults.  The program encourages students to share information about the adverse effects of liquid nicotine.
