Longwood High School Receives School of Excellence Award from New York State Public High School Athletic AssociationThe District is proud to announce that the varsity athletic program has been designated a Section XI School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) for having 75 percent of their varsity teams earn scholar-athlete status (earning a grade point average of 90 or above).

“The increase in the number of schools receiving both awards shows what fantastic student-athletes we have here in New York State,” said Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “This is evidence that schools, administration, coaches and student-athletes focus on excellence in the classroom as well as the playing fields.”

The purpose of the School of Distinction and School of Excellence Awards are to unite varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide honor. This year’s figures represent the highest number of NYSPHSAA member schools being recognized for their academic achievements.

“I am extremely proud of the commitment our student-athletes have shown to their academic success,” said Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics Gina Curiale. “This achievement is a great way to start off the 2018-2019 school year.”
