High School Students and Staff Honored at Brookhaven Town Hispanic Heritage Celebration

High School Students and Staff Honored at Brookhaven Town Hispanic Heritage CelebrationThirteen Longwood High School students were recognized at the Town of Brookhaven’s Sixth Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.  Longwood’s students, chosen among 69 seniors throughout Brookhaven, were honored for achieving a grade point average of 95 or higher. Congratulations to the following students: Emely Arizaga, Gustavo De Los Santos, Benjamin Fuentes, Heliana Genao, Damian Maldonado, Kayleigh McGeeney, Arianna Morales, James Myler, Edmundo Porras, Jr., Jason Rosales, Gabrielle Velazquez, Elissa Villegas, and Sofia Gomez Yepes.

Additionally, Longwood High School science teacher Ivan Suarez was honored for providing enriching learning experiences for thousands of students, as well as his ability to offer hands-on instructional support to colleagues.  Throughout his 22 years of teaching, he has influenced generations of students to pursue post-secondary education in careers in science.  

In 2013, Supervisor Ed Romaine established the first Hispanic Advisory Board in the Town of Brookhaven to help improve cultural understanding between the Hispanic community, civic and business leaders, government, and residents.
