Superintendent of Schools

Dear Longwood School Community,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and enjoying the remaining days of the summer recess. While we look forward to welcoming our students back to school on September 8, 2020, we realize that our buildings and classrooms will look different this year.  What will remain the same is our ongoing commitment and care for our students, staff, and community.

In preparation for the 2020-2021 school year, a Reopening Task Force, including board members, central administration, principals, teachers, other instructional and non-instructional school-based staff, parents, students, and community members, was formed in May 2020 to provide recommendations for reopening.

To provide the safest and most prudent means of instruction, the Board of Education and Central Administration has selected two options for our students; the hybrid model of instruction and the full-time distance learning model.  Both models reflect the recommendations from the June parent, staff, and student survey. As directed by the New York State Education Department, our Reopening Plans were submitted, and we were pleased to learn they were approved.  Please note that the plan is subject to change as additional information becomes available or required by state health and safety requirements.

We recognize that you will have many questions about both plan's specifics, and we intend to answer your questions as we finalize the program. We realize that the adjustment back to school through frequent two-way communication will be a smoother transition for our students and families.

The full reopening plan is available on our website, as well as a list of frequently asked questions, and additional resources.   Be sure to check our website often for reopening updates.  We will also share information through emails, text messages, and phone calls (as needed) to keep our families informed.  Be sure and have all contact information up to date.

Our goal throughout this process has been to first place the safety and welfare of our students, staff, and families. We thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we navigate this ever-changing pandemic and for your support and cooperation as we work together to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for all.  Thank you for your ongoing patience and partnership.
