High School Student-Musicians Among Best in New York State The District is pleased to announce that three student-musicians have been named participants or alternates in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) All-State Performing Ensembles.  This year, selected musicians will participate in a virtual All-State experience since in-person performances cannot be held in light of the pandemic.

Congratulations to seniors McKenna Fenimore, a soprano voice in the women’s choir, and Thomas Gallagher, a bass voice in the mixed choir, for being recognized for their outstanding talent and musical excellence. Additionally, senior Maren Taylor has been named an alternate soprano voice in the mixed choir if accepted students cannot participate.

“Once again, our exceptionally talented high school students are selected to perform with the top musicians in New York State,” said Dr. John J. Gallagher, Longwood’s Director of Music and Fine Arts. “Their selection is a testament to our quality music education. We could not be more proud of our students’ dedication.”

The process for selecting an All-State musician includes teacher recommendations, audition scores at the NYSMMA solo evaluation festival during the last spring, and exemplary participation in other performing organizations.
