Longwood Board Presents Van Johnson with Community Pride Award.At the Thursday, November 19 meeting, the Longwood Board of Education presented Vandorn “Van” Johnson III with the 2020 Carl Verdi Community Pride Award for his ongoing support and commitment to the Longwood community.  

Van Johnson has been a firefighter for over 50 years, and has served as the Fire Commissioner of the Coram Fire Department for more than 30 years.  He continues to donate his time, not only to the Longwood School District, but to numerous community organizations. 

“We thank Van for all that he has done to protect and better our community,” said Board President Penelope Blizzard-McGrath, Esq.  “It is an honor to call him a friend, and I thank him for his ongoing dedication to our school community.”

The Carl Verdi Community Pride Award is presented annually to members of the community who, over a sustained period of time, have built lasting bridges between the school district and the greater community.
