Longwood High School Coach Joe Reilly Inducted into Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame

Longwood High School track and field coach, Joe Reilly, is one of only nine individuals inducted to the Class of 2021 Suffolk County Sports Hall of Fame.

Mr. Reilly was chosen based on his substantial contributions on behalf of Suffolk County sports, including the title of most wins in New York State history.

As a high school coach since 1983, he has earned the title of League Coach 46 times and County Coach of the Year 33 times. He has also been designated Suffolk County Coach of the Year 17 times and Newsday Long Island Coach of the Year twice.

He coached 140 All-County athletes, 63 All-State athletes, 20 New York State Champions, two All-American athletes, and one Olympic Qualifier throughout his career at Longwood.

"As a coach and athlete, you don't think about receiving this incredible honor," said Mr. Reilly. "I am truly humbled to be inducted into the hall of fame. I thank the people that got me here."

Reilly is only the third recipient in Longwood history to receive this prestigious honor, with Eric Brown and Kerry McCoy first and second.

"I have had the pleasure of working with Joe as both a teaching and coaching colleague," said Alicia Smith, Director of Health, Physical Education and Athletics. "He is one of the most dedicated and humble individuals I have ever met. His commitment to his student-athletes and the sport of track and field is evident in the successful teams he has coached, the individuals he has mentored, and his incredible ability to recall any race or event in which his student-athletes participated. We are extremely proud of Joe and congratulate him on being the recipient of such a well-deserved honor. He is a coaching legend."
