High-Risk Sports Testing Update

High-Risk Sports Testing UpdateOn Friday, April 23, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone released updated guidance for high school sports from the Suffolk County Department of Health Services.

Based on the decreasing positivity rate for COVID-19 in Suffolk County, the increasing rate of vaccination, and the eligibility for the COVID-19 vaccine having been expanded to those 16 years of age and over, as well as the ability to practice and play outdoors, mandatory testing for high-risk sports is no longer required.

Due to the low positivity rate within the Longwood Athletic Program during its participation in the mandated high risk sports testing process, the district is moving forward with discontinuing required weekly testing for the remainder of the modified fall sports season as well as the spring sports season for all levels.

Should the positivity rate begin to increase moving forward, the district will revisit the testing requirement at that time.

Longwood will continue to operate under the current COVID safety guidelines and spectator limitations as provided by the SCDOH.
