Longwood Junior High School Redesignated as a New York State Essential Elements School to WatchLongwood Central School District is proud to announce that Longwood Junior High School has been redesignated as a 2021 Essential Elements: Schools to Watch by the New York State Education Department.  This designation is awarded to exceptional middle-level schools that meet rigorous criteria and are on a path of continuous improvement.

Initially designated in March 2012 and redesignated in 2015, 2018, and 2021, the Junior High School is one of 16 selected in New York State and only three on Long Island.  Criteria are based on academic excellence, developmental responsiveness, social equity, and organizational structure.  Schools hold the designation for three years and then must be reevaluated.

“We are extremely proud to hear that the Junior High School received this redesignation,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael R. Lonergan. “Through the leadership of Principal Adam DeWitt, the teachers and staff have dedicated themselves to supporting students to reach their full potential. Longwood is fortunate to have such dedicated advocates educating our students, and I congratulate them for their steadfast commitment to excellence.”
